More Diabetes Info

Posted the following at Message Board, link:

Just saw this article today in the NY Times.

“For decades, researchers believed that if people with diabetes lowered their blood sugar to normal levels, they would no longer be at high risk of dying from heart disease. But a major federal study of more than 10,000 middle-aged and older people with Type 2 diabetes has found that lowering blood sugar actually increased their risk of death, researchers reported Wednesday.”

First off, I can’t find a link or title to the actual study, which I found interesting.

Second, the article seems to imply that they just gave the diabetics more drugs and told them to take a ton of insulin.

Third, a large majority of those that died did so through heart attack.

So wondering if anybody knows which study they are talking about. Also wondering if anybody has any thoughts on this, especially as it relates to Gary Taubes work.

  1. I saw the article too and have been combing the web to see if any of the low carb gurus are commenting yet. It sounds like the subjects in the study were taking a lot of insulin which I’d guess is the culprit. I look forward to hearing someone explain it scientifically.
